It's frustrating because if she just stopped to say "Hey, maybe we should try doing this instead, huh?" then she'd be a better character in my eyes.
Yet they don't do that and instead Reynn just second guesses everything while she's in the middle of going through with it. There are things she can be doing to act on her suspicions, but she doesn't.Īs you said, they could be working with the League of S to try and figure out what's going on or what role they're possibly playing in the bad guy's plans (hell, that's what they initially set out to do, but then as soon as they met one of the members they just kind of forgot about it). Reynn's character is supposed to be the "smart" one, at least in comparison to Lann anyway, but she doesn't really back that character type up. She takes no actions whatsoever to address those concerns. I'll go back and fix that bit at some point.Īs for Reynn, the reason she bugs me so much is because she constantly waxes on about how suspicious everything is, or what people's motivations could be, or whether what they are doing is a good idea or not, but she doesn't do anything about it. I just assumed that they were added with Maxima because my only experience with the game is the base version from 2016.
The cheat options may have been added in a patch. I finished this game several months before Maxima was released and yet I had made use of both the max gil and the no random encounters cheats. On a game-play note, while you have been describing the cheat functions as being added in Maxima, this is not the case. Well before this point I wanted the twins to drop the prophecy and instead join up with the League of S to bring down the Empire. Following the prophecy had always had an air of 'We have to do something, and this is something.' Just because you're doing something doesn't mean the thing you are doing is a good idea. From a meta perspective it almost certainly was, but she couldn't know that.Īs to her failure to offer an alternative, that never was a problem for me. Similarly, I liked that her initial reaction to the prophecy was to doubt that it was talking about them. By the time that I was done with Niflheim and its suburb I'd gone from being quite skeptical of following that prophecy to being certain it was a bad idea. While I am 100% not okay with beating someone unconscious and leaving them in an area surrounded by monsters, I was more annoyed that they were still going on with plan 'literally do exactly what the badguy prophecy wants you to do'.
I'm gonna voice some dissent regarding Reynn.
